Rock out with your block out
[info]t3hteeks
So I bought Lego Rock Band because I am Harmonix's bitch and will buy anything with "Rock Band" slapped on it. And it's pretty fun. I like the whole style of the game and I mean, it's more Rock Band, so that's always fun.

Few things though. I got the Wii version of the game and it's totally gimped. The Wii version doesn't support DLC, Online or song exporting to Rock Band 2. DLC and Online were in Rock Band 2 for the Wii and they work great. Rock Band 2's online has worked better for me than any other Online game for Wii. So why would they not add these to Lego Rock Band? It's not like the Wii can't handle it or anything. It boggles the mind.

The graphics for the Wii aren't that great. They're not as bad as every one says, but they're not great either. A lot of it looks bad, mostly background stuff. And it goes back to the blurry vision that Rock Band 1 for the Wii had. Again, makes no sense since Rock Band 2 looked fine.

But to me, the biggest problem with the game is how repetitive the tour mode gets. The game only has 45 on disk songs and since the Wii version doesn't support DLC, you're going to be playing these same songs a lot. There's so much stuff to do in Tour and that's awesome, I love it. But it's not quite as fun to play the same songs over and over and over. "Accidently In Love" by Counting Crows is a fantastic song but playing it two challenges in a row is not so fantastic. This problem could have all been avoided if my DLC for Rock Band 2 just fucking worked on Lego Rock Band. I mean, damn.

Also, one more thing. I wonder, who was this games target market? Obviously kids would be the most likely to buy it. I mean, Legos are for kids. Kids will buy it. It'll likely sell the best for Wii. But if kids are the target market, why does the set list look like this?

1960's (2)
"Fire" - The Jimi Hendrix Experience (Classic Rock, 1967)
"I Want You Back" - Jackson 5 (Pop-Rock, 1969)

1970's (6)
"Crocodile Rock" - Elton John (Glam, 1973)
"Kung Fu Fighting" - Carl Douglas (Funk, 1974)
"Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me)" - Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel (Glam, 1975)
"Ride A White Swan" - T. Rex (Glam, 1970)
"The Passenger" - Iggy Pop (Classic Rock, 1977)
"We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions" - Queen (Classic Rock, 1977)

1980's (9)
"Crash" - The Primitives (Indie Rock, 1988)
"Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" - The Police (New Wave, 1981)
"Free Fallin'" - Tom Petty (Classic Rock, 1989)
"Ghostbusters" - Ray Parker, Jr. (Pop-Rock, 1984)
"Let's Dance" - David Bowie (Pop-Rock, 1982)
"Summer Of '69" - Bryan Adams (Rock, 1985)
"The Final Countdown" - Europe (Metal, 1986)
"Walking On Sunshine" - Katrina and The Waves (Pop-Rock, 1985)
"You Give Love A Bad Name" - Bon Jovi (Rock, 1986)

1990's (4)
"Aliens Exist" - blink-182 (Punk, 1999)
"Breakout" - Foo Fighters (Alternative, 1999)
"Song 2" - Blur (Alternative, 1997)
"Two Princes" - Spin Doctors (Alternative, 1993)

2000's (23)
"A-Punk" - Vampire Weekend (Indie Rock, 2008)
"Accidentally In Love" - Counting Crows (Rock, 2004)
"Check Yes Juliet" - We The Kings (Pop-Rock, 2007)
"Dig" - Incubus (Alternative, 2006)
"Dreaming Of You" - The Coral (Indie Rock, 2002)
"Girls & Boys" - Good Charlotte (Punk, 2003)
"Grace" - Supergrass (Rock, 2002)
"In Too Deep" - Sum 41 (Punk, 2001)
"Life Is A Highway" - Rascal Flatts (Country, 2006)
"Monster" - The Automatic Automatic (Indie Rock, 2006)
"Naive" - The Kooks (Indie Rock, 2005)
"Real Wild Child" - Everlife (Pop-Rock, 2007)
"Rooftops (A Liberation Broadcast)" - Lostprophets (Alternative, 2006)
"Ruby" - Kaiser Chiefs (Indie Rock, 2006)
"Short & Sweet" - Spinal Tap (Metal, 2009)
"So What" - P!nk (Pop-Rock, 2008)
"Stumble and Fall" - Razorlight (Indie Rock, 2004)
"Suddenly I See" - KT Tunstall (Rock, 2004)
"Swing, Swing" - The All-American Rejects (Emo, 2003)
"Thunder" - Boys Like Girls (Pop-Rock, 2006)
"Tick Tick Boom" - The Hives (Punk, 2007)
"Valerie" - The Zutons (Indie Rock, 2006)
"Word Up!" - KoRn (Nu-Metal, 2004)

Now, think for a second. How many of these songs or bands can you name? Now think of how many kids 5 to 12 can name. I hardly know some of these bands but kids are supposed to know them? Sure, some of these songs make sense. "Life is a Highway," "Ghostbusters" and "Accidently In Love" are all popular soundtrack songs kids will likely know. But what about most of the others? Some of these songs just don't make sense. They're all family friendly, but still.

I think what bugs me the most is that "Swing, Swing" was the song picked by the band All-American Rejects. Why a song from their first album? Why not a song from their more mainstream albums? One more kids would know?

I like the way they handled it, I think it'll help kids learn some good music. But I can't help but feel it might not have been best to load it with mostly songs kids would be unfamilar with. At least make it half and half. I mean, I don't know even know The Zutons, Everlife or The Primitives

So Ame drew me up a free pic since my commission with her hasn't been done yet, seeing as how she's been busy with Heartcore lately. (Plus I think she's having complications with the background for it, last I heard from her about it...)

With that in mind, I asked she draw me her rendition of Morrigan from DarkStalkers.

And she did.

Like wow. Just WOW. I honestly have no idea why I (or anyone else for that matter) never asked her to draw Morrigan SOONER.

And yes I know the irony of her character being a succubus when Ame's a succubus as well. Wouldn't be the first time, too.

Either way, I'm QUITE satisfied with this. Hopefully once she finished up my actual commission I can get to ordering more pics like these. :D

Off to slave the day away at CVS.

Damn I am rockin' the house today.
[info]notpsylols
Today? Probably a 10/10. Good day at work. Great day at work.

We're hiring 30 people. 30 Freelance writers to help us with blogs and churn out content. Really it's the easiest job in the world. You go out, find a topic about some car shipping or whatever - slap it together - bizam. We're paying $10 every blog, minimum of 250 words. So if you pump out 30 = $300.

I recently poked Tara - haven't heard from her in awhile. Not to spill her personal shit all over my LJ but long-story short = she likes money. Then it hit me. I'm the one in charge of this operation. I'm the one hiring people. They don't need to be english majors - just people willing to do the work and do good work. I know plenty of people who could benefit from this!

I hit up Tara, Trunks, Niro, and even Johnny. I know I've got Trunks on board - and I'm pretty sure Tara's there too. Not sure about Niro or Johnny-

But - the fact I'm able to help people out money-wise really puts a smile on my face. It's not a full-time job - but it's better than nothing. I really feel privileged to have a job where I'm managing these many people and a couple of my friends who need help. I felt like I had the power to raise mountains - really free. I couldn't be happier.

So yeah. Woot.

[info]mr_oma
You know how if you watched something when you were younger, and you watch it again now, you have a better understanding of it? Well, I've felt that was a lot with many things. Most recently with one of my utmost favorite movies of all ever time, The Fifth Element.

Okay, so I saw the Die Hard movies back then. I knew who Bruce Willis was. But a great lot of us were getting introduced to the hotness of Milla Jovovich and the WTFness of Chris Tucker. I didn't and still don't know Ian Holm outside the fact that he was in the Lord of the Rings movies and did a voice in Ratatouille as Skinner, but nowadays, I see that this movie got a triple dose of power from Léon, as it had the same antagonist (Gary Oldman, who GODDAMN is a master of disguise), the same composer (Éric Serra) and hell, even the same director (Luc Besson).

No wonder this movie kicks so much ass. XD

But I tell you, I love this movie so goddamn much. It has action, comedy, interesting characters, locale, and an AWESOME story. And Leeloo is still one of the best characters to pull off a triple mix of hot, adorable, and BADASS. Everytime you saw her was a treat, especially when she was still learning the human customs and language.

No denying.

I find some amusing moments, too, which some people might overlook. There are some points that segway all too well, like when Leeloo is explaining to Cornelius about the whereabouts of the stones, all the while Zorg discovering that they're not in the crate they are supposed to be in, the moments before the shuttle to Fhloston Paradise takes off, and several parts at the end, just to name a few.

Another thing is this: Bruce Wilis is Korben Dallas, the main protagonist of the film. Gary Oldman is Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg, the main antagonist. Not once. NOT. ONCE. Do they ever meet face to face. Zorg meets Cornelius and he confronts Leeloo, but the closest Korben's ever been to Zorg is that he worked at one of the taxi companies run by him. There was a part near the end where as Korben and party are boarding an elevator to the docking bay of Fhloston Paradise, Zorg is getting off the one right next to it and just misses them. After eying the elevator they escaped in to, he limps off on his way. I think that was pretty interesting.

But yeah, it's definitely one of my favorite movies. Maybe even one of THE. I'll always pop in and never get bored of it at any point. The only other movie to have that effect on me is The Dark Knight, so for almost 11 years, The Fifth Element reigned supreme for me.

If you haven't seen it by now, I HIGHLY suggest it. It's been re-released onto DVD and Blue-Ray more times than I can count, so it's always going to be around.

The malware thing hasn't come back up. I found a way to deactivate it by using the task manager to end the process. But I think it's still in the computer. I downloaded a program called Spyware Doctor and it did indeed detect it and any other viruses my computer has. Unfortunately it won't remove them because I have to PAY for that. Why can't anti-spyware programs be for FREE, god damnit?

Well, I'll have to think on that for the time being right now, the latest One Piece chapter came today and we'll have to savor it because it's taking ANOTHER FRIGGIN' BREAK next week. What's WITH these breaks, anyway? Bah, no matter...

Getting to the HEART of the problem. See what I did thar? =P )

Also, forgot to link this the other day since I was busy with the malware crap:

The Nostalgia Critic reviews Congo

I've seen a few movies about gorillas in the past. I can't remember which two they were, but I can tell you that this wasn't one of them. But from the look of things this movie made them 20 times better then this. Who kills off Bruce Campbell so easily, anyway?

Plus, as awesome as Tim Curry is, that has got to be the worst Russian accent I've heard anyone say. YOU'RE BRITISH, DERNIT. YOU CAN'T HIDE THAT.

Now I have to get ready for work. I think I can say this is honestly the worst week of workshifts I ever had. Too many off them are at least 6 - 8 hours and one of them starts at 7:30 AM this Saturday. I really wonder why they need ME so much these days...

So in case you haven't read off my Twitter or Diskmaster's LJ, (though I don't know why he felt the need to tell people about it on HIS LJ...) my computer got infected with a malware virus.

It's something called "Antivirus System Pro," which constantly tells me my programs are infected and won't let me use them unless I purchase the software. God damn scam.

First time I encountered it, all I did was reset the computer and it didn't come back. Second time around, Diskmaster gave me a program called "Malware Bytes" and after resetting the computer again, I used it and it removed several things off the computer and it didn't come back.

Now yesterday it comes back again, but this time after resetting the comp it came back, and now not only is it doing the same crap as before but now it's opening random windows and tabs of porn sites and the website for Viagra. And this time Malware Bytes only removed one thing and didn't detect ANYTHING when I tried running it on Safe Mode this morning.

I really don't know what to do. Diskmaster suggests I reformat the computer but I REALLY don't want to. I've got too many programs and stuff that I don't wanna lose. Mom suggests that we take it to a computer place to have it taken care of, and from the look of things that will end up being my next option. Tho I have been looking up sites to find any other progrmas that could potentially remove it since McAfee fails thanks to the virus. But we'll have to do something about it soon because mom needs the computer as well since she borrows it a lot and I -NEED- it to complete my projects for my COBOL and Visual Basic classes and won't be able to do it if this god damn malware prevents them from opening.

This is one of the reasons I hate the internet sometimes. Can't go to a simple website without having some P.O.S. virus that some asshole invented just for cheap thrills or whatever their intention was.

I'll try and see how to fix things for the time being one way or another...
