Just got through the third and final part of the WOMBATs (Wizards' Ordinary Magic and Basic Aptitude Test) at JKR's official website. Annnd... it's given me some food for thought. She's teasing us with half information on
Deathly Hallows in this one.
For example, as if to just reassert that that symbol on the spine of the UK children's cover IS significant, you have to assemble the symbol out of a straight line, a triangle, and a circle to get into the WOMBAT test in the first place. The interesting thing is there's been a lot of speculation about that symbol, whether or not it's an ancient rune or a hieroglyphic or what, and what role Hermione's Ancient Runes class will play, or Bill's profession as a curse-breaker. After the deluxe edition cover, I can't help but wonder if the two eldest Weasley sons won't play a part in this last book, Bill with his curse-breaking and treasure hunting, and Charlie with his dragon-keeping. That dragon, by the way, has apparently been determined to be an "Antipodean Opaleye", according to the latest episode of PotterCast, so you were right, Cukeman.
Anyway, I got to a true/false question that stated "The world's largest Centre for Alchemical Studies is in Egypt". Now, given that essay I read a while back, discussing the three states of alchemical cleansing and using that to predict Harry's demeanor and the "big" death in
Deathly Hallows, combined with my own sneaking suspicions relating to JKR's writing style, I've been wondering whether or not alchemy will play a role in DH. There've also been some theories going around that the scene depicted in the US regular edition cover and the UK children's edition cover is taking place in Egypt. And now with that question... I dunno. I'm questioning my own predictions about the flow of the book. I stand by my bigger ones relating to "live or die" plot points.
